Prafulla Jayant Athalye
“A” Grade Artist of All India Radio & TV, Senior disciple of Tabla legend Ustad Allarakha,National winner of Inter–University competition, 1995. One of the leading & finest Tabla Artists of younger generation. Prafulla Jayant Athalye began learning tabla when he was six years old from Shri. Vasant Vishnupurikar. After studying for five years, Prafulla performed his first
solo tabla recital at the early age of eleven. Recognizing his natural aptitude in this classical form of art, Prafulla’s parents decided to send him to the esteemed maestro
late Ustad Allarakha. Over the next fourteen years, Prafulla trained under the watchful eye of his guru. His training was supplemented with guidance from his senior gurubhai, Shri Ashok Godbole. From a very early stage in his musical career, Prafulla began deepening his theoretical understanding of classical tabla, expanding his repertoire, and refining his technique and sound. Despite being a professional, world-class musician, Prafulla continues to expand his knowledge by studying under the knowledgeable Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar; additionally, Prafulla receives occasional guidance from Shri Bhushan Munj. The combination of Ustad Allarakha’s taalim, Prafulla’s natural musicality, and many years of dedication and
commitment have made Prafulla into one of India’s most vibrant and leading tabla players.
