At the invitation of and in the session curated by Ud. Zakir Hussain, on February 3, 2018, Tejas Tope performed a ~45 min. tabla solo at the annual event of Ud. Alla Rakha’s Barsi at the Shanmukhananda Auditorium in Mumbai. • Tejas Tope (www.tejastope.com) is 21 years old, will be a senior at NYU Stern School of Business. Tejas is a recipient of Barr Scholarship from NYU, a prestigious financial award which pays for all 4 years of all of his college expenses, plus a stipend. • Tejas started learning tabla at the age of 5 from Pt. Samir Chatterjee at Chhandayan (www.tabla.org) and received it's most prestigious Jyotsna Award in 2011. • Participated in 5th, 10th, and 14th, and 16th Annual All Night Concerts organized by Chhandayan. • Received First Prize in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 at the annual Vedic Heritage’s Holi Youth Talent Competition held in Hempstead, NY.
• Received First Prize in he Swardhara Competition held by Marathi Vishwa of New Jersey in 2010 and 2012. • At the age of 11, recorded an album entitled “Guru-Arpita – A Dedication to Pt. Samir Chatterjee” . containing fifty-six compositions in six taals. • In the summers of 2011, 2012, and 2014, 2016,2017, and 2018 Tejas attended 1-week long tabla retreats with Ud. Zakir Hussain in CA. • At Crescendo competition organized by Swarganga (https://www.swarganga.org), in September 2012, Tejas won the First Prize in the under 15 tabla category and won the Mega Finals Round.
• Tejas has accompanied his Guru Pt. Samir Chatterjee (tabla), Pt. Ramesh Mishra, Pt. Steve Gorn, Pt. Subratoroy Chaudhary, Samarth Nagarkar, Pt. Ulhas Bapat, Kunal Gunjal, Pt. Sanjoy Benerjee, Jay Gandhi, Abhik Mukharjee, Qais Essar, Padmashree Pt. Satish Vyas, Anupam Shobhakar, Padmashree Pta. Rita Ganuli, Shakir Khan , Arjit Mahalabanis, Meghana Sardar, Jay Gandh, Kedar Naphade, Manoj Govindraj, Rucha Muley-Jambhekar, Paromita Das, and his sister, Priyanka Topé. • Attended 2 sitar workshops conducted by Ud. Shahid Pervez. • Taught himself several compositions in 2012 and 2013 & published by Pt. Arvind Mulgoankar in his books, CDs, and DVDs and recorded them his album Space WIthin Beats.
• Tejas has received training in Pakhawaj from Pt. Mohan Shyam Sharma, 2012 Shri. Pratap Awad, 2013, and Pt. Manik Munde, 2014. • In summer of 2013 Tejas recorded and released 5 CDs. Inner Rhythm, Space Within Beats (tabla & pakhawaj solo), accompanied Manoj Govindraj & Rucha Mulye-Jambhekar in Swar-Ras, and Baad-E-Naubahaar and Bhav-Rang. • On March 27, 2016, Tejas was honored with the title Taal Gandharva by Guru Archana Joglekar, Founder and Director of Madhyam, New Jersey, USA. • Performed in Hyderabad, India, at Srirang Pratishthan in Mumbai, at the Karnataka Sangh Hall (Mumbai), and accompanied on Pakhawaj Sri Arjit Mahalabanis at the India Habitat Center in New Delhi.
